According to McAllister, the midfielder's previous struggles stemmed from persistent fitness issues and a lack of a proper pre-season. "Even going way back to pre-season last year, he was nursing injuries the entire time," McAllister stated.
McAllister further noted that Iraola values Mac Allister's goalscoring ability, chance creation, and box-to-box qualities. "You can understand why the manager wants to keep him because, when fit and playing well, Mac Allister is a great asset," he added.
Mac Allister is currently on a mandatory three-week holiday following the World Cup final and is expected to make his only pre-season appearance against Como on August 16 ahead of the Premier League opener.
