Zinedine Zidane appointed as the new head coach of the France national football team

France have confirmed the long-awaited appointment of Zinedine Zidane as their new head coach following the departure of Didier Deschamps. Deschamps left his role at the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup, where Les Bleus secured a fourth-placed finish.

Zidane had long been considered the natural successor for the national team post. The former Real Madrid manager previously turned down various club offers while awaiting the opportunity to lead his country.

French FA president Philippe Diallo revealed that the legendary midfielder has signed a four-year contract. Zidane will remain at the helm until the summer of 2030, covering the upcoming Euro 2028 and World Cup 2030 cycles.

The 54-year-old returns to management five years after concluding his second spell with Real Madrid in 2021. During his historic tenure at Santiago Bernabeu, he famously guided Los Blancos to three consecutive Champions League titles.

Zidane's first match in charge of France will take place in the UEFA Nations League. Les Bleus travel to face Turkey at the Kocaeli Stadium on September 25, followed by an away fixture against Belgium on September 28.
