Argentina state workers union members protesting during a national strike demonstration

According to official announcements, the Asociación Trabajadores del Estado union in Argentina has declared a nationwide strike scheduled for August 3, accompanied by a major demonstration heading toward the Ministry of Economy.

Based on statements from union leadership, the industrial action comes as a direct response to severe purchasing power erosion, ongoing layoffs, and the systematic dismantling of public administration agencies and state-owned enterprises.

Union general secretary Rodolfo Aguiar stated "Los acuerdos salariales quedaron por debajo de la inflación, lo que provocó un fuerte deterioro de los ingresos de los trabajadores estatales" while criticizing the administration of Javier Milei over widening economic gaps.

Statistics provided by the labor organization indicate that cumulative wage adjustments during the first half of the year reached 12.9 percent, whereas inflation climbed to 16.9 percent.

Furthermore, the union confirmed plans to join the upcoming national day of struggle on August 7 under traditional labor slogans, while continuing to evaluate structural reforms affecting public employment across the country.
